Work Permit

Most people need a work permit to work in Canada. There are two types of work permits; open work permits and employer-specific work permits.

Some jobs require a Canadian employer to get a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)

General eligibility requirements:

  • You must prove that you will leave Canada when your work permit expires
  • You must show that you have enough money to take care of yourself and your family members during your stay in Canada and to return home
  • You must obey the law and have no record of criminal activity
  • You must not be a danger to Canada’s security
  • You must be in good health and have a medical exam, if needed
  • You must not plan to work for an ineligible employer
  • You must not plan to work for an employer who, on a regular basis, offers striptease, erotic dance, escort services or erotic massages

Work permit documentation and processes involved are complex and usually requires legal expertise.
