Do you need a visa to visit Canada?

Most people need a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization(eTA) to fly to, transit through a Canadian airport, or to travel to Canada. Some people may only need their valid passport.

What you need depends on:

• The type of travel document ( your passport)
• The country that issued your travel document( passport)
• Your nationality
• How you will travel to Canada
• If you do not have the proper documents, such as an eTA or visa, you may be delayed or prevented from boarding your flight to Canada

How long can you stay in Canada?

At the port of entry in Canada an officer will determine how long you can stay in Canada. Most visitors are allowed a six-month stay from the day they entered Canada. If the officer authorizes a stay of less than six months, they will indicate in your passport the date by which you must leave Canada.
